Obituary:Bernice C. Johnson, age 97, of Plymouth went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Kindred Hearts in Plymouth.
She was born on October 25, 1914 in Sheboygan Falls daughter of the late William and Louise (Wichmann) DeTroye.
Bernice attended Bettsy Ross Grade School and also Valley House School.
On October 13, 1935 she married Clifford M. Johnson in Waukegan, IL. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1951. The couple lived in Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Denmark, moving to Plymouth in 1953.
She worked as a machine operator for Gilson Brothers, volunteered at St.Vincent DePaul for over 20 years, and in her free time enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking.
Bernice was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plymouth, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
She is survived by her children; Beverly Goulder, Fort Atkinson, William Johnson and Carol of Plymouth, Brian (Ellynne) Johnson of Plymouth, Rita (Mike) Strobel of Plymouth, 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 17 great great grandchildren, a son-in-law; Romaine Simonsmeier, and a sister-in-law; Ann DeTroye.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters; Sharon Simonsmeier, and Rosemary Pickrum, brothers William, Stanley, Herbert, Eugene, and Harold DeTroye, 2 grandchildren; Bradley and Lisa Johnson and a son-in-law; Harvey Goulder.
Memorial services will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home in Plymouth with the Rev. James Wilson, pastor of Redeember Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial of Bernice’s remains will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday at the Funeral Home 4 PM until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in the name of Bernice C. Johnson.
