Obituary:George R. Raeder, age 87, of Sheboygan went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at his home.
He was born in Plymouth on January 29, 1925 son of the late Arthur J. and Ida (Gerhardt) Raeder.
He graduated from Elkhart Lake High School in 1942 and attended Mission House College and the University of Arizona.
He heard the call of his country and served in the United States Marine Corp from December of 1943 to May of 1946 serving in Okinawa and Tinian.
On June 7, 1952 he married Dolores Schmidt at St. Paul United Church of Christ in the Town of Russell. The couple made their home in Sheboygan.
He worked for the Garton Toy Company from 1952 to 1973 working up to National Sales Manager, he became self employed from 1975-1979 co-owning and operating H.R. Sales Company specializing in lawn and garden products and later worked for the Diamond Printing Company retiring in 1990 at the age of 65.
He was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon for three years, served on the Evangelism Committee and Church Council. He was currently a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Sheboygan.
He was a member of the Sheboygan Elks Club #299, a member of People to People, Sheboygan Chapter and served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
In his free time he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, traveling, reading, hunting, fishing, and listening to classical music. Some of his travels have taken him to numerous countries in Europe and China.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores, two children Todd A. (Kathleen) Raeder of Mt. Prospect, IL, Sue Raeder of Denver, CO, two grandchildren Annie and Benjamin Raeder of Mt. Prospect, IL, a brother Arthur (Sue) Raeder of St. Charles, IL, and a sister Betty Lanser of Elkhart Lake. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at St. Luke United Methodist Church (623 Ontario Ave) in Sheboygan with the Rev. Ric Olson officiating. Burial will take place in the St. John Cemetery in Elkhart Lake. Friends may call at the church from 12 PM until the time of service.
