Obituary: Frank Raymond Schmidler, age 88, of Elkhart Lake went home to be with The Lord Jesus on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.
He was born on March 7, 1924 in Port Washington son of the late Frank and Ruth (Roever) Schmidler.
He graduated from Port Washington High School. After high school he heard the call of his country and enlisted in the United States Navy serving from 1942 to 1948 with an honorable discharge. While serving, he was in the Asianic Theater and the European Theater. After returning home he attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree. He later received his Master of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison.
On August 23, 1952 he married Ruth Olm at Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1998.
For 31 years Frank taught biology and physics at Plymouth High School retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake, he served for 7 years on the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Board of Education, was a member of the Elkhart Lake Fire Department, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers, and rarely missed a Ducks Unlimited Banquet.
He is survived by two children Jane Schmidt of Elkhart Lake, John (Cindy) Schmidler, Carmel, IN, two grandsons Rob Schmidt and Adam Schmidler. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a grandson Jonathan and a son-in-law David Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake with the Rev. Michael Safford-Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Cemetery in the Town of Rhine. Friends may call at the Church from 1 PM until the time of service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Kim Eberhardt who provided tender loving care for Frank over the course of the past three years.
